United Way of Yavapai County is proud to partner with inspiring organizations like Steps to Recovery Homes, a nonprofit based in Cottonwood, Arizona. Their work is centered around helping individuals recover from addiction, alcoholism, and mental health disorders. Together, we are committed to fostering healthier communities by providing vital support services to those in need, helping them build sustainable futures.
Steps to Recovery Homes: A Lifeline for Change
Steps to Recovery Homes has had a tremendous impact on the lives of many in Cottonwood and beyond. Quinton Ellis, the Job Development Coordinator, explains that their mission is to help people “get out of their own way” and move toward recovery from the issues that impact one in five Americans. Their work goes beyond addressing immediate crises, focusing instead on creating long-term, positive changes for those battling addiction and mental health disorders.
“We’re here to build healthier communities by helping people recover from addiction, alcoholism, and mental health disorders,” says Ellis. “Our goal is to provide a safe, supportive environment that enables individuals to take control of their lives and move forward.”
A Unique Approach: The Job Development Program
One of the standout aspects of Steps to Recovery Homes’ work is their Job Development Program, which plays a key role in their clients’ journey toward recovery. This innovative program gives clients a safe space to develop new skills and gain real-world experience that can help them secure stable employment, a critical component of long-term recovery.
Unlike other programs where individuals might have to wait for weeks to meet with case managers, Steps to Recovery Homes incorporates job development directly into their clients’ schedules. Twice a week, clients participate in activities designed to enhance their professional skills, and they are even compensated for their efforts.
“We pay them to do this work, and these opportunities can truly change the trajectory of their lives,” Ellis explains. “It’s about preparing people not just for any job, but for meaningful, sustainable employment that supports their recovery.”
The Role of Employment in Recovery
Employment can be a cornerstone of successful recovery. Steps to Recovery Homes understands the importance of sustainable work for long-term success. Their program isn’t just about finding a job—it’s about finding the right job that contributes to ongoing recovery and personal stability.
“We want to make sure our clients are grounded and ready to move into jobs that will help them stay on the path to recovery,” Ellis shares. “It’s not just about employment; it’s about finding the right work to support their long-term progress.”
