At United Way of Yavapai County, we believe in the power of partnerships to create lasting change in our community. One of the most inspiring examples of this is the incredible work being done at Four Steps to Recovery Homes, a 501c3 organization that is transforming lives every day through their innovative recovery programs.
Angie Dixon, the Director of Operations at Four Steps to Recovery Homes, embodies the spirit of transformation and resilience. Her journey began five and a half years ago when she entered the program as a client, struggling to find a sustainable path to sobriety. Today, she stands as a testament to the life- changing impact of structured support and compassionate care.
“I came here five and a half years ago and started here as a client,” Angie shares. “I’ve continued to stay because of the benefits of the program and what it did for me in sustaining my sobriety.”
At United Way, we understand that overcoming addiction is not just about getting sober—it’s about staying sober. The program at Four Steps to Recovery Homes is designed to help individuals do just that by providing the structure and support needed to change behavior patterns and build a foundation for long-term recovery.
Creating Healing Spaces
One of the most exciting developments at Four Steps to Recovery Homes is the creation of a new event center, a space designed to promote healing and well-being. Angie was inspired to create a space that brings the outdoors in, offering a bright, open, and airy environment where clients can feel valued and worthy.
“A lot of the times we meet in places, such as basements or in meeting spaces where there’s not a lot of attention put into the actual space,” Angie explains. “I wanted to use that same concept here with recovery, a place where addicts can come and feel that they’re worthy of a nice, special place to congregate.”
Research shows that people heal faster in environments that incorporate natural elements and light, and this concept has been thoughtfully applied in the design of the event center. By creating a space that feels good, Four Steps to Recovery Homes is not only supporting the recovery process but also offering a valuable resource to the broader community.
Empowering Through Skills and Confidence
Another key aspect of the program at Four Steps to Recovery Homes is their Miracles Happen Resale Store, where clients can develop practical skills that boost their confidence and prepare them for the workforce. From learning e-commerce and online sales to refurbishing furniture and engaging with customers, clients gain a variety of skills that are essential for their next steps in life.
“Our clients are able to utilize the skills that we teach them upstairs,” Angie notes. “They build self-confidence and take that to their next workplace.”
At United Way of Yavapai County, we recognize that empowering individuals with skills and confidence is crucial to their long-term success. Programs like those at Four Steps to Recovery Homes are essential in helping individuals transition back into society with renewed purpose and self-worth.
